Detroit Lions vs. New York Jets

Week 15 of the NFL continues with this interesting inter-conference tilt in New York on Sunday, December 18, and here you can read the best Lions vs. Jets betting pick and odds.

New York is hoping to avoid the third defeat in a row when they host Detroit at MetLife Stadium. The Lions are slight 1-point favorites on PointsBet Sportsbook, while the total is set at 44.5 points. These inter-conference rivals will meet for the first time since 2018.

Lions outclassed the Vikings at home

The Detroit Lions (6-7-0, 9-4-0 ATS) are playing their best football of the season after winning five of the last six games, and the only loss came to the Buffalo Bills at home. Detroit bounced back from that loss with a pair of home victories against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings. The Lions controlled the game against the Vikings from the start and got to a 34-23 win as their defense continued to improve. The hosts forced two turnovers and committed none on the other end.

Jared Goff completed 27 of 39 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns. DJ Chark led the team in receiving yards with 94 and a score on six receptions. Josh Reynolds and Jameson Williams also found the end zone through the air, while Justin Jackson scored a rushing touchdown. Interestingly, C.J. Moore led the Lions in rushing yards as he had 42 on just one carry. On defense, Detroit registered four sacks opposite Minnesota’s zero and Alex Anzalone led all the defenders with nine tackles.

WR Quintez Cephus (foot) is out indefinitely. C Evan Brown (ankle), S Will Harris (hip), and Derrick Barnes (knee) are questionable to play on Sunday against New York.

Jets couldn’t cope with the Bills’ defense

The New York Jets (7-6-0, 8-5-0 ATS) lost back-to-back games for the first time this season as they suffered a couple of road defeats to the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills. The Jets actually totaled more yards than Buffalo (309-232), first downs (19-14), and possession (34:25-25:35), but committed a pair of turnovers and forced none in return in a 20-12 loss.

Mike White completed 27 of 44 passes for 268 yards. Zonovan Knight was solid on the ground with a team-high 71 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore combined for 138 yards on 12 receptions (17 targets). Defensively, Quinnen Williams was credited with a couple of sacks, while C.J. Mosley had a game-high nine tackles.

RB Breece Hall (knee) and G Alijah Vera-Tucker (triceps) are out indefinitely. WR Corey Davis (head), S Marcell Harris (ankle), DT Quinnen Williams (calf), and DE Micheal Clemons (illness) are questionable to feature on Sunday against the Lions.

Trends:

Detroit:

1-4 SU in the last five games against NY Jets

1-5 SU in the last six games against the AFC rivals

New York:

6-1 ATS in the last seven games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game

4-0 ATS in the last four games after accumulating less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game

Detroit Lions vs. New York Jets Pick

Detroit is playing very well at the moment, but the Jets know they must beat the Lions and Jaguars in their next two games at home if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Lions do have a top 5 offense that is scoring 26.8 points per game and a top 10 pass offense that averages 248.8 yards per game. However, it’s not going to be easy against the Jets’ defense which is surrendering 18.7 ppg and their 4th best pass defense that allows 189.4 yards per contest. On this occasion, I am going with a stronger defense to prevail.

Pick: Take the Jets at +2.5 (-130)

The Total

The Lions have been very efficient on offense lately; they scored 31+ points in four of their last five games. Still, it’s hard to expect the Lions to score 30+ against the Jets, who allowed 30 points only once this year, and it was in a win over Cleveland. New York has a very strong pass defense and will limit the visitors, who will likely have to turn to run. Under is 6-2 in the Jets’ last eight games overall, while Under is 4-1 in New York’s previous five games following an ATS betting win.

Pick: Go Under 46.5 points (-130)
