Atlanta Hawks vs. Brooklyn Nets Odds, Pick, Prediction 12/9/22

Atlanta Hawks vs. Brooklyn Nets

We have ten NBA games on the schedule for Friday, December 9, including this conference clash in Brooklyn, so make sure you check out the best Hawks vs. Nets betting pick and odds.

Atlanta is looking to avoid the third loss in a row when they take on Brooklyn at Barclays Center in Brooklyn NY. The Nets are 7-point favorites on DraftKings NY, while the total is set at 228.5 points. These conference rivals faced three times last year, and the Nets won that series 2-1.

Hawks lost to the Knicks and also lost Murray to an injury

The Atlanta Hawks (13-11, 10-15-0 ATS) answered to a three-game losing streak with a pair of victories, but they returned to losing ways against the Thunder and Knicks. Atlanta scored a season-low 89 points in a blowout 113-89 defeat to the New York Knicks on the road and also lost Dejounte Murray, who suffered an ankle injury and will be sidelined for a couple of weeks. The Hawks shot only 37.6% from the floor and made just six three-pointers opposite the Knicks’ 17.

Trae Young led the hawks with 19 points, game-high six assists, and four rebounds. Clint Capela posted a double-double of 13 points and team-high 11 boards, while Onyeka Okongwu scored ten points with six rebounds.

PG Dejounte Murray (ankle) joined PF/C John Collins (ankle) and SF De’Andre Hunter (thigh) on the injured list. None of them will be ready to face the Nets on Friday.

Nets beat the Hornets at home

The Brooklyn Nets (14-12, 10-14-2 ATS) are playing their best basketball of the season. They won five of the last six games, and after the Boston Celtics snapped their four-game winning streak, the Nets managed to return to winning ways with a 122-116 home victory over the Charlotte Hornets.

Brooklyn scored 73 points in the first half and allowed 55 in return, which was a lead big enough to give them a win in the end. The hosts shot 57.0% from the field and recorded 33 assists opposite the Hornets’ 25.

Kyrie Irving led the Nets with 33 points, game-high nine assists, and five rebounds, and tied a career-high four blocks. Kevin Durant flirted with a triple-double as he finished with 29 points, team-high nine boards, and a game-high eight dimes, Seth Curry added 20 points, six dishes, and five rebounds, while Nic Claxton added 14 points, seven boards, and three swats.

SG Yuta Watanabe (hamstring) is out indefinitely and will not play against Atlanta on Friday.

Trends:

Atlanta:

3-8 ATS in the last 11 games overall

6-14 ATS in the last 20 games following a straight-up loss of more than ten points

3-8 ATS in the last 11 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game

Brooklyn:

3-1-1 ATS in the last five games following an ATS loss

4-1 ATS in the last five Friday games

Atlanta Hawks vs. Brooklyn Nets Pick

Atlanta is a weak team without Murray, Collins, and Hunter, and the Nets have an excellent opportunity to win this game quite comfortably. Trae Young is going to take plenty of shots, but even if he scores 50 on Friday, I don’t think it will be enough to avoid a loss in Brooklyn.

The Hawks do have a slightly better offense than the Nets, but this is not relevant without three starters, and I am sure the Nets’ top 10 defense, which is allowing 110.3 points per game, is going to stop the visitors. Expect Durant and Irving to combine for 50+ points, while Ben Simmons is probable to play as he returns from an injury. I feel sorry for the Hawks.

Pick: Take the Nets at -6.5 (-110)

The Total

Despite having superstars on their team, the Nets are not very efficient offensively. Their offense is not even in the top 15 as it averages 111.3 points per game, but they are better in offensive rating than the Hawks. Atlanta is missing three guys who are excellent defenders and that will be felt on the floor on Friday.

That’s why I am backing the Nets to score around 120 here. Still, that doesn’t mean Atlanta will contribute enough for an Over bet. Limited offensively, the Hawks will find it hard to hit triple digits. Under is 5-1 in the Nets’ last six overall; Under is 5-1 in Brooklyn’s previous six home games, while Under is 5-1 in the Hawks’ last six games following an ATS loss.

Pick: Go Under 230.5 points (-133)
